2013 Goals

Be Home
Laundry Done. Dinner Ready. Time to Teach.  Family Focused.
Be You
Teach kids to love their personal talents and abilities.
No one else can be you.  Be proud of who you are.
Be Prepared
Run ahead not behind. Be prepared for anything and everything.

I take goals very seriously.  I can look back over the years and see how much I have gained from setting goals and working towards them.  I put a lot of time, effort, and prayer into what my goals should be.  I always have one goal as my overall focus for the year.  One day it just hit me, "BE HOME" should be my main goal for this year.

Years ago when my kids were just tiny I was usually looking for opportunities to get out of the house, but the tables have turned as the kids have gotten older.  I honestly couldn't have imagine how having kids in school could make my days so busy, but somehow it does.  Our evenings and Saturdays are filled with scouts, activity days, dance gymnastics and sports.  Sundays and many other days of the week are filled with service to Relief Society sisters.

When I asked myself: What can I do to strengthen my marriage?  What can I do to provide our children with a strong testimony of the gospel and who they are?  What can I do to ensure the success of our family now and in the future?

The answer is "Be Home"

I can have a delicious meal ready at the end of a long day.  I can read a story to a two year old.  I teach a four year old how to write his ABCs.  I can help practice words for the spelling bee.  I help with a sewing project  and listen to a readers theatre scrip.  I can discuss scripture stories.  I can visit with my husband. The most important things that  I can do are at home.

My second goal is "BE YOU"  I want our children to not be afraid to be who they are and who God wants them to be.  For each of their Birthdays this year along with their regular gifts I am giving them something special to remember how important they are.  Alexis' Birthday is tomorrow.  I made a video of pictures from her life with the song, "Happily Ever After" written by Jenny Phillips as the background music.  The song tells the story of a beautiful baby that is born and through righteous choices she reaches her "Happily Ever After."

"BE PREPARED"  I am really trying to be more prepared this year.  I have made a list of things that need to be accomplished each month of the year.  I am planning to have Christmas shopping done by November and shop for Birthdays at least a month in advance.  I am also focusing on our 72 hour emergency kits and updating our food storage.

Have you been to the blog http://www.abowlfulloflemons.net ? She has great ideas for emergency preparedness. I've been able to get our water storage and 72hr kits done in 2 weeks as that is also one of my goals for the year.

I have tried various systems for food storage and currently, our food storage operates like an extended pantry. Only things we use plus powdered milk and wheat. It has saved me many a trips to the store when I realized I'd forgotten something.

Matt's mom gave us emergency backpacks one year. Each kid and adult has their own. They are in a closet by the garage. Speaking of which, it's time to change those out!

Now what I need is a Ziploc bag in the car with an extra pair of undies and clothes in it, as manifest by Sunday when my 5-year old had an accident and we were unprepared.
